How this tool works
Density relates the amount of mass to the space it occupies. This unit-neutral calculator performs the numerical division and reminds users that the output unit is determined entirely by the mass and volume units they supply.
Density ρ equals mass m divided by volume V. A valid density calculation requires a positive non-zero volume and consistent interpretation of the input units.
How to use it

Worked examples
Mass in grams

Dividing the 500-unit mass by the 200-unit volume produces 2.5 mass units for every unit of volume.
Kilogram and litre example

- 6 kg and 3 L
- Output
- 2 kg/L
The numerical ratio is six divided by three. Because the calculator does not convert units, the result retains kilograms per litre.
Limitations
- The calculator does not convert between measurement systems.
- Temperature, pressure, porosity, and measurement uncertainty can affect physical density.
