Tip Calculator and Bill Splitter
Calculate a tip, total bill, and equal per-person share from a bill amount, chosen tip percentage, and group size.
Calculate a tip and split the bill
How this tool works
This calculator separates the original bill, gratuity, final total, and equal share so a group can verify every stage. It accepts a custom non-negative tip rate and a positive whole-number party size rather than assuming one regional tipping convention.
Tip equals bill multiplied by tip percentage divided by 100. The final total is bill plus tip, and the equal share is that final total divided by the number of people.
How to use it
- Enter the amount shown on the bill before gratuity.
- Enter the tip percentage you intend to leave.
- Enter the number of people sharing equally, then read the tip, total, and per-person amount.
Worked examples
Dinner for two
- Input
- Bill 80, tip 15%, 2 people
- Output
- 46 per person
A 15% tip on 80 is 12, making the total 92. Dividing that total equally between two people produces a 46 per-person share.
Group lunch
- Input
- Bill 125, tip 20%, 5 people
- Output
- 30 per person
The tip is 25 and the complete bill is 150. An equal five-way split gives each person a payment of 30 before any unequal adjustments.
Limitations
- It does not allocate different menu items to individual guests.
- Taxes and service charges must already be included in the bill amount if they should be tipped.
